Trivantage Community Federal Credit Union was established in 1961 as INCO Federal Credit Union under a federal charter, hired its first employee, and transacted its first business from the trunk of a car with a shoebox serving as its depository. The Credit Union later operated on a part-time basis out of a one-room office, located at the INCO Alloys plant about the security department, until 1971 when it moved to its present 4,000 square foot location.
The Credit Union converted from a federal charter to a state charter in August 1982 to allow for the addtion of select employee groups. In December 1994, a conversion back to a federal charter was granted to give the Credit Union the ability to serve its members and grow without being restrained by an antiquated state code. On June 13, 2001 Trivantage Community FCU's application for conversion to a community charter was approved, making them the first credit union in the area to receive a broad community based charter. Trivantage Community FCU may now offer services to persons who live, regularly work, worship, attend school, or perform volunteer services in the community. The community is comprised of Boyd county, Kentucky, Cabell and Wayne counties, West Virginia; and Lawrence county, Ohio.
Since its humble beginnings, the Credit Union's assets have grown to more than $20 million with total membership of over 6,400. Trivantage Community FCU was one of the first credit unions in the state of West Virginia to have state-of-the-art facilities, and among the first to offer share drafts, ATM cards, and an ATM machine. Presently, the Credit Union has evolved into a full-service institution in order to better serve its members' financial needs by offering a variety of electronic and convenience services, savings accounts, loan products, and other services.
